When the word stem cell, you may have heard of someone talking about it, or you may have read an article that discusses regarding its uses, but what are stem cells really and how are they taken?
In essence a human actually starts as single egg cell, its fertilized, divide into several cells and the differences to create human parts that are functional such as muscle cells or blood cells, this is the process of differentiation where most of the human body is more on. These stem cells are the cells that have been fertilized and divided but did not differentiate, and they can regenerate and multiply to remain a stem cell or differentiate.
There are two ways into which this stem cell is taken from, one is called embryonic stem cells taken from 2-5 days old embryo, and the adult stem cells taken from bone marrow and fatty tissues from a patient.
Stem cells are actually useful as per research in regenerative medicine for the purposes to repair or replace tissue or any organ function lost due to congenital defects, disease, damage, or age. The controversy that lies in stem cells is the argument in taking it from a human embryo which in essence many claimed to be a life being formed already and the with the taking of the stem cells such embryo will be wasted.
And because of this it had raised concerns and topics that correlates the conflict between science and religion that raised the concern of many.
One more issue that concerns the use of stem cells is the fact that there are some clinics that use stem cells as treatments, and claims cure even to those diseases that have no known treatment as yet, and these claims have no related and proven research too. It is for this reason that the effectivity and credibility of the research made for stem cells that are proven real are put into question and many people have begun to doubt here the effectivity of stem cell, just because of those false claims.
Should you decide to undergo treatment using stem cell, you need to be able to identify the clinic that has the proven research from those that are less reputable ones in the market.
In the present time, continued research is still done to ensure full functionally of stem cell, and eradicate those controversies surrounding it, and once this research is gone wide, it will be the great future of regenerative medicine.
